Console Nintendo For three generations in a row, they have been suffering from a strange illness in a row: almost all good games for them are doing and publish Nintendo itself, while most of the games from third -party developers should be supplied with paper packets for vomiting. Exceptions occur annually, but they can be counted on the fingers of one hand of an alien from Spielbergov E.T. Red Steel 2 – Just from these: she will hardly send you to ecstatic knockout, but at least you can play with pleasure in it. And even slightly grieve in the process.
Small commotion in a large desert
The first part Red Steel I went out in 2006 with Wii and was called upon to demonstrate all the features of the management of the new console. Firstly, Wimout was remarkably coping with the role of the "light pistol". It was an order of magnitude more interesting for them to aim at the enemies than turning on an analog handle. Secondly, the mind excited the opportunity to cut off the villains with virtual katana with her own hands. And here the main disappointment was waiting for the main part: it was shooting that took most of the time, and the duels on the swords rolled into an erratic waving with his hands in front of the TV screen in the hope that the hero would harass and cut the next Yakuza (the action took place in Tokyo). The feeling was as if you had a wet broom in your hands, and not sharply sharpened steel.
Apparently, therefore, it was decided to rethink the game. Red Steel 2 has nothing to do with the first part. The developers decided not to continue the topic of criminal showdowns in Tokyo, but instead made a wild cross of the western and Japanese films about karate and ninja. Everything happens in some strange world where the traditions of the Wild West, Japanese feudalism and more or less modern technologies mixed. Here, near the saloon, you can find an automatic machine for the sale of soda and taxophone, cacti are adjacent to bamboo groves, and the sheriff has a suspiciously narrow eye cut and characteristic Japanese antennae. You won’t believe it, but it turned out very harmoniously and even plausible in places. And certainly – unusual.
The game begins with the fact that the main character is tied with a rope to a motorcycle and carried by a muzzle on cacti for about a minute. After that, a furious cowboy manages to free one hand, shoot a rider and start taking revenge. As it turns out later, he takes revenge not only for a spoiled costume, rumpled sides and straightened honor, but also for the murder of all his brothers in arms with a certain clan. Very soon a magical sword will fall into his hands, and here the most interesting thing will begin.
With a cry "Kiya!"And with the blow of the leg
If in the first game the gameplay was 90% of the shootings, then in continuation the same amount of time is devoted to duels using cold and very sharp weapons. Moreover, fights are implemented by an order of magnitude better than before. Red Steel 2 must require WII Motionplus, a small wimout nozzle, which significantly increases the accuracy of positioning the controller.
Unfortunately, counting on the fact that the sword will completely repeat the movements of the hand, do not have to. There is no exact synchronization, but still progress in comparison with the first part of the huge. You can beat a katana from above, from below, from the side, diagonally, apply strokes, and the stronger you swing, the more powerful it is to hit. Conventional enemy attacks are overwhelmed automatically (you just need to clamp the button and turn to the villain face), but to reflect the strong ones, you need to place the sword vertically or horizontally depending on the direction of the blow. These are basic movements, and after all there are a dozen more special attacks and finishing offs, for which a number of consistent actions need to be performed. For example, throw the enemy with a strong blow from below, jump and wave a wave on top to print the enemy hanging in the air on the ground.
The most important thing is that your actions finally become meaningful. You constantly monitor several opponents, repel their attacks and guess the time for your attacks. This is not one hundred percent imitation of a duel on swords, but already very close.
The bandits behave adequately quite adequately. At the first levels, you do not have to strain especially, all attention is paid to learning the supervisors on almost helpless boobs. And a little later, huge children with hammers appear, brisk ninja with knives and surrounded in the armor of the samurai. Here with them you have to sweat pretty, and in the very same sense. Fights with bosses are generally a fencing holiday, and sometimes even regret that ordinary enemies have not made the same evil. It is necessary to wave the remote control so that the proposal to put a strap on the wrist, so that the whispering of the exhausted hands does not break the TV, no longer seems so ridiculous. Especially given the fact that WII Motionplus significantly weights the controller.
Firearms compared to duels is no longer so amused. It is not entirely clear why they made as many as four types of trunks, one pistol would be enough. It is mainly used in order to spread the scenery. From each item, whether it is a chair, a barrel or air conditioner, for some reason there is a cash that never there is a lot. New super -supergrands are bought for coins. Another pistol is very convenient against not very armored enemies: you shoot such a thing, it falls on one knee, and you cleverly pierce the unfortunate katana. More serious opponents even do not pay much attention to a shot from a shotgun in the face.

Red Steel 2 is one of the few games for WII, focused on players, and not on housewives and generally far from electronic entertainment of people. Its main advantage is the excellent mechanics of fights on swords, which are really similar to a duel, and not to random wiping with vimut. The game, of course, has problems: over time, scenery, tasks and game situations begin to be repeated. Gam-designers would not hurt to turn on the imagination: swing a sword, no doubt, interesting, but closer to the finale it begins to bore, I want something new.
Nevertheless, Red Steel 2 can be played not only without pain, but with pleasure. Moreover, today it is one of the few hardcore games that, in full, uses the possibilities of Vimout. Over time, when the Xbox 360 and PS3 will appear, respectively, the Project Natal and the PlayStation Move, there will be much more such projects, but right now there is an opportunity to cut the enemy’s sleeping artery with an accurate wave in Red Steel 2.
